Starting at the artwork, and certainly not finishing there, this is a mindfuck of an album. Merzbow, aka Masami Akita, has long been one of the bastions of excellence for the noise scene, and this is widely considered to be his best work.

I listened to this album and I'm not ashamed to say I just didn't "get" it.
ReplyDeletePerhaps there's some hidden complexity to noise music that I'm missing, but this literally did sound like 73 minutes of white noise.
No hidden complexity, dude. That's exactly what it looks like: white noise, noise, at all. There's nothing to understand. There's nothing to "get". Just listen to it, if you want, just be confronted by it, watch as its microvariations go on, maybe unpleasantly or maybe having nothing to do with such a thing as pleasure.
