About Court In The Act.

No albums are hosted here. All files must be deleted 24 hours after download, as they are for review and criticism purposes only - provided you follow this guideline, downloading from Court In The Act is legal as per s30(1) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. If any copyright holder has a problem with their material being posted here, get in touch and I will remove it. Let me know if any links are broken, I'll remove the post to prevent future annoyance, and will attempt to re-upload the file.

Comments make our work worthwhile. If you really enjoyed an album, tell us about it, we'd love to hear from you. If you hated it, tell us why.

Although music is a major part of all of our lives, we all have some form of external life. If there are periods in which no posts are added, I'm sorry, but that's how things happen. Even though I love blogging like this, sometimes I can't muster up the desire within myself to write about yet another album.

I'd like to say too that Court In The Act will never be run for personal profit. This means no advertisement, no premium schemes, and no LinkBucks. Megaupload is used because it strikes a fair balance between ease of upload and ease of download.

Re-upload: Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue [1959]

The reason why this is tagged with 'legal' is that the copyright of a sound recording expires 50 years after initial publication, so the copyright for this expired in 2009.

This is an all-time classic, not just within its genre, but in all of music. Miles Davis is my favourite jazz musician, and for good reason. This album should be heard by everybody.

Repost notes: New legislation being pushed through might bring this back into copyright. Download it while you can and fight the legislation.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew [1970]

Fuck me, a double album. I find it appropriate, however, that one of the last batch of uploads for which I will be using Megaupload is massive both historically and duration-wise. Miles made it here - a delightful concoction of his earlier bluesy jazz style and the emergent strains of progressive rock. It's a little bit long for me personally, but I can't deny its genius.

Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers - Moanin' [1958]

Just one post from me again today - one problem I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that I've run out of hard disk space, which means I'm getting rid of all the shitty albums, so they will never be posted.

Not that this is shitty. In fact, this is wonderful - a classic of jazz for good reason - the motif of the title track is one of my favourite moments in music ever.

Tom Waits - Mule Variations [1999]

Tom Waits. You may not know this old american singer, you'll never forget his voice, described as sounding like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car. Singing since the seventies, he composes all his songs himself, or sometimes with his wife, and he is not afraid to explore some experimental sounds, usually evolving in a sort of gloomy blues, sometimes rock influenced or jazzy. What about this album? It marks the return of Tom Waits after seven years of silence. Apparently, these long years have saddened the old man... As shown in the cover, the mood is not conducive to smiles. This album sweats sadness, darkness, and melancholy. However, even if it sounds sometimes disturbing, uncomfortable, you'll always find a kind of beauty trough the songs...A masterpiece.

Sun Ra And His Arkestra - Jazz In Silhouette [1958]

The reason why this is tagged with 'legal' is that the copyright of a sound recording expires 50 years after initial publication, so the copyright for this expired in 2008.

Sun Ra is one of the most under-appreciated jazz musicians around. Although I'm by no means an expert on his music, this is my favourite of his thus far - it's not particularly experimental, but has an edge on most jazz and blues of its time (except, of course, for Kind Of Blue).

Similar artists: Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane

Roger Waters - The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking [1984]

Oh would you look at that it's my all-time favourite album. Around 1978, when Pink Floyd were coming up with ideas for a new album, bassist and self-proclaimed Lord of the Universe Roger Waters presented 2 ideas to the band. One was The Wall, the other was this.

After all the drama of "The Final Cut", Waters left to fully develop this project, and I am extremely glad that he did. "The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking" follows the dreams of a man undergoing a mid-life crisis. The result is one of the most emotional albums I have ever come across. But what I like most about it is how well it flows. The entire album just fits together, like one big soppy song. Featuring the sublime guitar work of Eric Clapton (playing in his trademark bluesy-country style) this album is simply fantastic start-to-finish. Though if I had to pick highlights, I would choose "Sexual Revolution" and "Go Fishing".

Miles Davis - Amandla [1989]

This will be my last Miles Davis upload for a while - I promise! - and whilst it's not quite up to the standard of much of his catalogue, it's still worth a listen. After all, Miles Davis couldn't make a bad album if he tried.

Miles Davis - Tutu [1986]

Another Miles Davis album, this one is more jazzy than the other two already posted. It's another one of his classics, and is certainly worth both downloading and listening to. He was one of the only artists who could produce classics in the twilight of his career.

Miles Davis - Doo-Bop [1992]

This is underappreciated in Davis' vast catalogue, but as his last studio album, it's not only worth a listen for that alone, but it's also astoundingly good. The integration of rap stylings into it is surprisingly effective.
