Genesis - Selling England By The Pound [1973]

If you manage to see through the 'poncy' nature of this album (and indeed most of Genesis' prog albums), you'll find an extremely sound piece of work with lovely rhythms, exciting solos and even a few catchy hooks.

"Selling England" was Genesis' 5th album, and is a product of the collective creativity of the so-called 'classic' band lineup (of Gabriel, Hackett, Rutherford, Banks and Collins), which had been refined on their prior three efforts. What you'll find here is an overall very 'warm' sounding album, which combines perfectly with Peter Gabriel's tragic 'cries of a nation' vocals.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon [1973]

Ah, Pink Floyd. The massively-popular mainstream rock monster that it's okay to like.

There isn't really anything to be said about this (arguably their most well-known) album that hasn't already been said by a million different reviewers on a million different sites a million times before, so I'm no doubt repeating someone when I say "The Dark Side Of The Moon" is a truly unforgettable rock experience.

If you haven't heard this album before, you must.
