Even though I love blogging like this, sometimes I can't muster up the desire within myself to write about yet another album.

I'd like to say too that Court In The Act will never be run for personal profit. This means no advertisement, no premium schemes, and no LinkBucks. Megaupload is used because it strikes a fair balance between ease of upload and ease of download.

Anti-Cimex - Anarkist Attack EP [1982]

Anti Cimex are, quite simply, legendary. They are THE band of Swedish crust punk, and considering the strength of the Swedish crust scene over the years, with the likes of Shitlickers, Driller Killer and Bombanfall, that is saying quite a lot! This is their first EP to my knowledge - although information on them is not too clear - and although the crust element here isn't too developed, largely due to the date of release, it remains a very solid piece of hardcore punk - some records are worshipped more for their legacy than their actual quality (cough cough Master Of Puppets cough cough), but this is the real deal. The brevity of the EP only adds to the sheer ferocity of it - each of the four tracks on offer here has something uniquely Swedish, nay, uniquely Anti-Cimexian about it, and yet manages to still fit squarely within the hardcore punk genre. Classic.

Accept - Restless And Wild [1982]

I found myself humming several songs from this album earlier today, and it occurred to me that I hadn't yet posted it here on Court In The Act. Initially, I enjoyed the instrumentation on the album but found the vocals nauseatingly akin to AC/DC, but have since got over that and learned to love this fantastic set of songs. Germany really has always known how to make metal; from the excellent trad scene of the early 80s to some of the best thrash ever produced, to rapidly developing death metal and black metal scenes in the early to mid 90s. However, this is quite possibly the most famous album ever to come out of Germany that is actually great (read: no Scorpions), and plaudits for the seamless integration of poppy (everything is poppy, maaaaan) hooks into individual tunes.

Diamanda Galás - The Litanies Of Satan [1982]

Diamanda Galás is without a doubt one of the best-known avant-garde musicians of our age. This, her debut album, is one of the most varied, crazed, and indeed passionate vocal performances that one will ever experience. Naturally, the title track is based around Charles Baudelaire's rather famous poem of the same name, but the use of the voice to create the variations on a theme style of music which originated as far back as middle-era classical music (The Goldberg Variations being a well-known example), but which was popularized with the jazz movement. This is one of the weirdest, and perhaps scariest pieces of music you will ever hear, but perhaps also one of the most moving, and the best.

Uproar - Die For Me EP [1982]

This is a little known piece of d-beat inspired punk from the early days of hardcore. It's quite impressive, especially considering it was released at roughly the same time as 'Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing'. The melodic vocals give it a slight difference from the rest of the pack.

Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing [1982]

Disfear. Dishammer. Disclose. Napalm Death. All bands heavily inspired by Discharge, and in particular by this album. Hardcore punk was redefined the moment this was released - although it had existed before, particularly through the media of the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, this revolutionized it. It even has early traces of the desolate feeling of crust in it. This is the 'Reign In Blood', the 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas', the 'Altars Of Madness' of hardcore. It's abso-fucking-lutely essential.

N.B. This is the 2003 Castle Records reissue, with fucktons of bonus tracks.

The Cure - Pornography [1982]

Now this has been a long time coming so sorry for the delay. I will be posting all of the The Cure's "trilogy" albums (Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers) - so named after the live DVD in which all these albums were played in their entirety. For me, this album is The Cure's first true goth rock album, as opposed to the earlier melancholic post-punk sound, the constricting sterile production replaced with powerful percussive drums, resonating bass lines and dense atmospheric guitar work. Another large feature on this album (and most Cure albums to be honest) is Robert Smith's distinctive voice which on this release manages to pierce right through all the layers of music (as well as your skull if it's on loud enough) to convey the somewhat twisted nature of the sound of this album. Highlights of this album are 'One Hundred Years', 'The Hanging Garden' and 'The Figurehead'. This line up of the band didn't last much longer and The Cure broke up after the conclusion of the following tour and by the time The Cure returned this post-punky gothic rock was no longer the focus and a new age of The Cure's sound was ushered in. Oh yeah, I bought this album with its bonus disc which includes demos of many of these songs (they sound kinda like the album would have sounded if it was still very post-punky) and some live material from this album which has varying degrees of quality.

Stay tuned for the next two albums in the "trilogy".

The Alan Parsons Project - Eye In The Sky [1982]

Strange band from United Kingdom, formed in 1975 by Alan Parsons and now split up for twenty years. Except Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson, the other musicians were just guests, through the years, in every albums of the band. Playing a sort of progressive rock pop-influenced, they eyed different musical directions, sometimes approaching a sound more medieval, sometimes more easy-listening. Many see this album as his masterpiece. I could recommend it to you for the two amazing songs "Old and Wise" and "Eye In The Sky".

Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast [1982]

Iron Maiden are one of the biggest metal bands ever, but unlike Metallica, they didn't reach their success by compromise. This, possibly their most successful, and their best, album, features the key singles of their ascension - 'Run To The Hills' and the title track.

Chaos UK - Burning Britain EP [1982]

Chaos UK were one of the greats of the UK82 sound. D-beats and shouty, pumping choruses galore, this is hardcore at its best - catchy, thumping, but with a witty, political undercurrent, undoubtedly against the Tory government of the time.

Shitlickers - Cracked Cop Skulls EP [1982]

Well, this isn't quite a continuation of the grind theme, but it's supremely punky nonetheless. This is a short EP, and the first track ('War System') was covered by my beloved Atomski Rat. It's a cracking EP. I should also add that this is an Anti Cimex side project, if that means anything to you.

Venom - Black Metal [1982]

Arguably the album that started the black metal genre, if not by nature, then certainly by name, and it's a cracker. Aged well like champagne, yet infused with piss and vinegar, each song on this is memorable. Hark back to the days when metal bands wrote songs.
