I may be a mysterious enigma, but my reasons for uploading this now are actually fairly straightforward. One, it's a fantastic album. Two, the new EP of theirs popped up in an RSS feed of mine, which prompted me to post this (I've been intending to for quite a while). Mortification are an Australian thrashy death metal band who are mostly talked about for their Christian lyrical themes, but don't be dissuaded, the music is not in the slightest bit gimmicky. Indeed, this is one of the hookiest old school death metal albums you'll hear for a long time - and no, I'm not talking Slaughter Of The Soul hooks, I'm talking vicious, fast-paced hooks. Hooks designed to tear through human flesh.

Comments make our work worthwhile. If you really enjoyed an album, tell us about it, we'd love to hear from you. If you hated it, tell us why.
Although music is a major part of all of our lives, we all have some form of external life. If there are periods in which no posts are added, I'm sorry, but that's how things happen. Even though I love blogging like this, sometimes I can't muster up the desire within myself to write about yet another album.
I'd like to say too that Court In The Act will never be run for personal profit. This means no advertisement, no premium schemes, and no LinkBucks. Megaupload is used because it strikes a fair balance between ease of upload and ease of download.

Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions [2000]
From the artwork to the music contained therein, this is essentially the genesis of the DSBM (depressive suicidal black metal) genre. Although it's not my favourite genre, I can easily appreciate the beauty (it's even uplifting at times) of this.

Vomitor - Devils Poison [2010]
I could quite easily spend this post rhapsodizing about Vomitor as well, but instead I'll get to the nitty-gritty: this is Vomitor's sophomore album, and presents an approach to songwriting with more hooks than their debut, even though standout closer 'Neutron Hammer' has been a staple of theirs for years.~220 kbps VBR

Vomitor - Bleeding The Priest [2002]
Vomitor are one of the best underground metal bands of the recent years; this is their debut, and it is truly a cracking piece of necro black/death/thrash metal. They do produce some brilliant stuff down under.192 kbps

Portal - Swarth [2009]
This is some of the weirdest metal around at the moment. Truly in the avant-garde school, this relies heavily on dissonance and noise, certainly more so than melody and typical structure. It's a truly fascinating album, although maybe not one you'll want to listen to too often.192 kbps

Morbid Angel/Slaughter Lord split BOOTLEG [1987]

This split, apparently recorded live on Morbid Angel's part, is an interesting three track piece - one ('Funeralled') from the legends Morbid Angel, showcasing the style that would later become more well known on 'Altars Of Madness', and two from underappreciated Aussie death metallers Slaughter Lord - and it is those, with a better production, yet still a really filthy, old school sound, that really stand out here.

diSEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence Into The Peripheral [1993]
Along with Thergothon's 'Stream From The Heavens', this album essentially created the funeral doom sound, although this is quite different to the monolithic slooooow sound of today, with some parts getting up to quite a speed, and even some blastbeats! It also takes more of a death metal influence than today's heavily black metal influenced sound.192 kbps

Deströyer 666 - Unchain The Wolves [1997]
If there was one country to compete with Japan in terms of outstanding black/thrash, it would have to be Australia. Whilst the grim and frostbitten BM ethic may not seem too 'down-under' like, add a sprinkling of thrash to it and you've got a killer Australian combo.320 kbps

Abyssic Hate - Eternal Damnation EP [1998]
Although they would pioneer the depressive suicidal black metal sound (DSBM) on their full-length debut, this is more standard black metal fare, although it never strays into the dreaded 'derivative' land. The last track is an interesting Absurd cover.192 kbps
