Autopsy are fucking awesome. Fact. This album is underrated. Fact. Although I won't be so irreverent as to claim it's on a par with Mental Funeral, the claim of its detractors that the production ruins the album are not true. Sure, it's not perfect, but it doesn't take that much away from a brilliant album.
So the new Autopsy has dropped upon us, and despite not being there during their heyday, I can assure you that it is looking to be right up there with the likes of 'Mental Funeral'. Already a strong contender for album of the year - and I've only listened to it twice!
Autopsy's best album. Whilst many fans started with 'Severed Survival' and moved onwards in the discography, this is their best, full stop, and it shows the start of the filthy, sludgy death metal they would become renowned for. Features their 'anthem', 'In The Grip Of Winter'.
This is the 2003 reissue of this classic album, but I used the original artwork because I prefer it. Formed by Chris Reifert after he left Death, this debut release shows far more of a thrashy approach than later doomy releases would. Almost on par with 'Mental Funeral'.
