Re-post: The Gerogerigegege - Yellow Trash Bazooka EP [1993]

The Gerogerigegege the most eccentric noise you'l ever find, lead by a weird man that dresses like a lady and a exhibitionist that masturbates on live performances. The musical portfolio is vast and included punk releases, grindcore, harsh noise, ambient, music concrete and conceptual works in dozens of records spread over 15 years. The band has currently vanished and since the early 2000's no one know exactly what happened to them especially the frontman. But enough about the band's background this is one of their grind and noise releases it is an EP famous because it features 79 tracks in less than 15 minutes. Basically you hear 1,2,3,4 in most songs and a quick burst of instruments, sometimes the vocalist says the title of the song and it's over to the next one. My personal opinion over this is that it's funny if you like it or not it's up to you...

Re-post notes: This is so good it needed more spotlight.

Merzbow/Shora - Switching Rethorics split [2002]

So this is one of the more interesting splits you're likely to hear in the near future. If you have any knowledge of noise whatsoever you're almost certain to know of the crazy Masami Akita, otherwise known as Merzbow. On the other side of this split is the Swiss band Shora, who despite having turned to wishy-washy post-rock on their most recent album Malval actually play a decent brand of angular, chaotic hardcore in the vein of mid-era Converge here (and I believe this is the only release in which they actually use vocals). The two styles juxtapose surprisingly well (the Merzbow side is in his post-millenium style - I'd name a release but there's so fucking many). Seriously, both acts are very impressive here. Go for it.

Zeni Geva - 10.000 Light Years [2001]

Today I present you Zeni Geva, a experimental metal band from Japan. They are a strange but awesome band, weird in every aspect. They are fronted by KK Null a know artist in the noise field, with the rest of the members changing frequently but all of them have some experience in the free improv, psychedelic rock or noise rock fields. And what music they create you ask, well it's a mixture of hardcore punk, doom metal, noise rock, played in a minimalism, repetitive, hypnotic and chaotic way. This record is one of my favorites it displays their style with a decent production (unlike the early releases), it's a dynamic record compared to previous ones, with a more experimental edge that other more "soft" releases they put out in the previous records. You can't go wrong with this release if you are brave, mad or stoned at least.

Guilty Connector - Mother's Bloated Corpse

Well it's time to work on this blog's noise collection!

This is Guilty Connector's Mother's Bloated Corpse and frankly I just grabbed a few of his records a  selected a random one to upload here, but don't let that stop you this his a awesome release, GC his a harsh noise artist that uses handmade syths that he build himself to create all his songs. Stylistically this sounds like any japanoise artist sounds (kinda), but with a lot of metal and punk influences, and this record displays the most obvious evidence of that (apart from the motorhead shirts he use on live shows sometimes), it includes among his noise works a Black Sabbath cover... remix... well a noise thing of Symptom of the Universe. And that should be enough to sparkle your curiosity, if not... try it anyways (if you like noise that is).

P.S. Sorry for the crappy image quality of the cover.

P.P.S. I've not been posting because I lack a decent internet connection, so luckily for you (I hope) I can post stuff till the end of this month cuz I'm on vacation.

Government Alpha & Brianvdp - The Oranda Nippon Conspiracy [2012]

Released on J. Randall (of Agoraphobic Nosebleed fame)'s already legendary Grindcore Karaoke label, this collaborative work between Japanese harsh noise maestro Yasutoshi Mashida and Dutch graphic designer Brianvdp is a well-structured work of nicely textured noise. It's also comparatively accessible compared to much other noise and indeed most of Government Alpha's body of work, mainly because it is restricted to 42 minutes in length and thus doesn't quite have the same monolithic feel to it as even slightly longer works like Spontaneous Combustion (which clocks in at just eight minutes longer), but also because it is a little more varied in its approach than much noise, and therefore is borderline memorable in parts. Still completely amelodic, chances are if you come to this blog for metal you wouldn't enjoy this. Keep an open mind.

Akira Yamaoka - Silent Hill 1-4 OST (1999-2004)

The first few games of the Silent Hill series are considered some of the best horror games around, and the soundtracks are considered some of the best in gaming, period. To match the hellish world of the games, sound designer for the first seven Silent Hill games Akira Yamaoka created a mostly ambient industrial soundtrack, broken up with some extremely emotional rock songs. These four official soundtracks (for Silent Hill 1 through 4) focus mainly on the more melodic side of the games' music, which can usually be found in cutscenes and the like.

However, Silent Hill mega-fan Fungo has created complete soundtracks for the first three games which focus more on the in-game tracks, and as such are much more ambient (and in the case of Silent Hill 3, much better than the official soundtrack). I've uploaded the first four official soundtracks here, but I haven't uploaded the complete soundtracks as you can download them for free from Fungo's website: Silent Hill Media (because he's put a ton of work into them and you should totally check it out).

Re-upload: Syphilitic Vaginas - Complete Studio Collection [2008]

All the craziest music seems to come from Japan, and this is no exception. Steaming black/thrash with some eccentric moments, in the vein of Abigail or the Japanese Sabbat, this is not one to miss; and they get extra marks for their name!

Re-upload notes: The reason why uploads are coming fairly slowly at the moment is that I think my laptop's still slightly fucked and I'm in the middle of exam season.

The Swanky's - The Very Best Of Hero [1985]

Yes, that apostrophe irritates me as much as it does you. But I'm willing to overlook it just this once, as this is pretty much the defining album of Japanese hardcore punk. As that won't mean much to many of my readers, imagine if S.O.B. had released Don't Be Swindle in the early to mid 80s - this essentially sounds like that (with a few differences, obviously). Don't worry, it's also the case that this sounds far more different to Never Mind The Bollocks than the cover would suggest. In reality, this is proto-grind, with the emphasis on the 'proto'; for much of the album this is closer to standard punk than grind or powerviolence, but when The Swanky's (ugh) let rip, for instance on 'Damaging Noise', one can certainly hear a few of those sounds in the mix.

Merzbow - Live Khabarovsk, CCCP (I'm Proud By Rank Of The Workers) [1988]

This is the a legendary live session, and the legend tells that when Merzbow was performing a series of shows in Russia and the first one got stopped for being too loud and he was "requested" to slow down. So the result was this the two following live sessions the first is the most noisy and the second is a very rhythmic track, both tracks are very jazz influenced, feature processed radio sound pieces and parts of the Batzokai album on background. Also at this point Merzbow was still a group and Kyoshi Mizutani played guitar and piano, while Akita played drums, electronics and various preparated instruments.
Also no artwork available since this was released has part of the Merzbox.

Merzbow - Fantail [2002]

Time to present you the two slightly lighter Merzbow works that I know (and like).
Fantail is a harsh noise work built on melodic guitar, songs usually start slow and then build up to noisy noise (some more than others). For those who dislike harsh noise and those who dislike Merzbow's harsher works like Pulse Demon, Tombo and stuff can get a pretty good starting point here. (also Clouds and Waterfall are two awesome awesome songs).

Sunn O))) & Boris - Altar [2006]

This collaboration album from 2006 is, to my mind, Sunn O)))'s best work, and one could probably say the same for Boris. The album features just over 50 minutes of relaxing, and at times blissful drone.

Les Rallizes Dénudés - Cable Hogue Soundtrack [1992]

Here's some pure awesomeness for ya, straight from Japan (again, I gotta start uploads stuff from other countries), they are the fathers of all noise rock. They were formed in 1967 playing minimalist psychedelic rock with some folk influences and most important they used all kinds of distortions, flangers, phasers and feedback through their careers, and that's what they show here, I'm not sure when it was recorded but this is a soundtrack to a documentary about the band, it's kind of a re-do of old material with some new one as well.
Highly influential, obscure and underrated.

Flying Testicle - Space Densia [1993]

Here's a collaborations between Masami Akita (Merzbow), Yamazaki Maso (Masonna) and Zev Asher (a film director). The trio released this album plus a 7 inch and ended the project shortly after.

Hijokaidan - King of Noise [1985]

Here's some more noise for ya. One of my favorite acts in the genre and also one of the first - Hijokaidan. This contains some improvised jams with participation of Toshi Mikawa on voice, drums and electronics. Amazing!!

Boris With Merzbow - Klatter [2011]

The cover art is intriguing, just like the music on offer here. Two pioneering Japanese artists collaborate here, as they have done many times before. This is mainly Boris-style, with a bit of Masami Akita mixed in. I'll admit I'm not a fan of much of Boris' output, particularly this year's, but this is good.

Flagitious Idiosyncrasy In The Dilapidation - Flagitious Idiosyncrasy In The Dilapidation [2008]

Continuing the Japanese theme started by HeySharpshooter's last post, this is one of my favourite albums from there - and considering the consistently high quality of extreme music the country produces, that says a lot.

FIITD are an all-girl grindcore band; their name may mean nothing whatsoever, but their music speaks for itself - powerful, fast and catchy grindcore, something that few bands can pull off. This is not a gimmick.

ミドリ(Midori) - First(Heart) [2005]

Getting pretty tired of posting Metal, so I thought I would change things up and post something that not a lot of people are familiar with.

ミドリ(Translating to Midori) was a very strange, very intense Jazz/Crust Punk/Noise Rock/J-Pop band from Osaka Japan that released a handful of kick ass albums over a short lifespan. In truth, I have never heard anything quite like Midori before and never have since.

The piano takes the place of the electric guitar as the lead instrument in the band, and for a good portion of the songs there is no electric guitar at all. The piano and drums are completely insane: fast, furious and aggressive, they perfectly blend Punk attitude with Jazz precision and technicality. The bass work is low and heavy, and often replaces the guitar altogether in some songs.

The vocals of the diminutive Mariko Goto will make or break this album for most. Mariko shifts from toneless, off-key singing, yelping, squeaking, moaning and vicious Grindcore growls dozens of times in some songs, and while I adore Markio and her vocal talents, some will be turned off. She basically has no vocal talent, but her emotional depth and range more than make up for her vocal range. This is one pissed off, creepy sounding 90 pound Japanese girl in a school girl outfit.

And that is one of my favorite things about ミドリ: their sense of humor. They openly mock Japanese culture and its many contradictions, particularly the Japanese fascination with underage girls.

First(Heart) is a solid intro to the band, although Second(Heart) is by far the bands strongest release(I will post it tomorrow).

Fans of strange, unique music and Punk Rock should give ミドリ a chance. I am still glad that I did.

Merzbow - 13 Japanese Birds Volume 2: Fukurou [2009]

Both the name and the music of this, Merzbow's second instalment in the 13 Japanese Birds series are highly entertaining. The former in the provision of an immature giggle or two, the latter in that it provides a stellar piece of noise for one to listen to and take in.

Merzbow - 13 Japanese Birds Volume 1: Suzume [2009]

Although they're not generally highly rated in the context of Merzbow's back catalogue, the 13 Japanese Birds series was my introduction to Merzbow, and as such, they hold a special place for me (even though it was only 3 or 4 months ago). Basically noise with an undercurrent of drumming.

Gallhammer - The End [2011]

So Gallhammer's latest is an interesting one, that's for sure. Punk/metal without bass is fairly commonplace, but without guitar is somewhat rarer. This also continues to slow down their average speed, and has a dirge-like feeling throughout. As Demigod put it, sexy stuff.
